In this documentary film, I engage in deep conversations with friends, some of whom I haven’t connected with in years. As we come together, we dive deeply into our shared experiences surrounding “social anxiety condition”. Given the name, “Social Anxiety Disorder”, it refers to a condition marked by an overwhelming fear of negative judgment, potential rejection, or being scrutinized in social or performance scenarios. Interestingly, this stands out as the United States’ second most diagnosed anxiety disorder.
Initially, I felt many had a shallow grasp of this ailment. Thus, my goal was to question: “Do we truly understand the labels we wear?” This thought drove me to interview friends who identify with social anxiety condition. Yet, as the discussions unfolded, my perspective shifted. Conversing with three friends, we bared our souls, strengthening bonds. I reconnected with long-lost pals and built rapport with mere acquaintances. We reminisced about the past and dreamt of brighter futures.
Following an intense all-night discussion, I realized my primary concern was overshadowed by the profound exchange of thoughts and emotions. This film chronicles the journeys of three friends. They’ve faced immense challenges, grappling with their anxiety. By juxtaposing this with a 14-year-old documentary on the same topic, the movie provides insights into contemporary perceptions of self-awareness and the journey to self-discovery.
