Staff report YOUNGSTOWN– Allyson Felix, the most decorated female track and field professional athlete in Olympic history, will speak at the Youngstown State University Thomas Colloquium 7 p.m. Sept. 14 at Stambaugh Auditorium.
Admission to the lecture is totally free, however tickets are required. Tickets are offered at the Stambaugh Auditorium box office or online.
Felix first participated in the Olympic Games at age 18 and has because accumulated 13 global titles, 10 U.S. Champions, 11 Olympic Medals, a world record and provided the fastest 400-meter relay split in World Champion history. She holds one of the most United States Track and Field Olympic medals of all time. Her accomplishments strengthen her as one of the best female athletes ever and has gathered attention from media business such as Style, Glamour, Essence, Self, O Publication, Sports Illustrated and Elle.
She works as an ambassador for Right to Play and Play Works, along with belonging to The President’s Council on Physical fitness, Sport and Nutrition.
Felix defended brand-new maternity policies for female athletes and continues to battle versus discrimination in the athletic world. Recently, she turned her attention to assisting the National Football League’s Nnamdi Asomugha supply Los Angeles area teens with tools to prepare themselves for college through their Asomugha College Tour for Scholars’ College Top.
YSU, through an endowment developed by Paul J. and Marguerite K. Thomas, started the yearly “Colloquium on Capitalism” in 1981. Reflecting the Thomases’ involvement in business neighborhood and their interest in the community-at-large, the colloquium cultivates ideas that contribute to the development of the capitalism system. It promotes free enterprise as a feasible force in the U.S. economy.
